The Oil and Gas Field Chemistry Research Institute is the main branch of the Double First-Class discipline construction in the School of Petroleum Engineering, covering two national second-level key disciplines: Oil and Gas Well Engineering and Oil and Gas Field Development Engineering. The Oil and Gas Field Chemistry Research Institute currently has 41 teachers (19 professors, 17 associate professors, and 5 lecturers and postdocs), including one member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one National Outstanding Youth/Changjiang Scholar, six national-level young talents. Guided by Xi Jinping's thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, the Oil and Gas Field Chemistry Research Institute fully implements the educational philosophy of moral education and talent cultivation, achieving outstanding results in areas such as teacher ethics, teaching and education, discipline development, team building, and party committee coordination. The institute takes on the educational mission of meeting the country's needs, focusing on the bottleneck problems in the safe and efficient development of deep oil and gas resources, forming a deep oil and gas efficient development research team led by Academician Sun Jinsheng and Professor Dai Caili. In 2023, the institute successfully obtained approval to build the national key laboratory for deep oil and gas, and in 2022, it was approved as the first national natural science foundation basic science center project in China's oil and gas field. The institute has won two national awards for scientific and technological progress and 24 provincial and ministerial first prizes, including four special provincial teaching achievements prizes and two first prizes, as well as other iconic achievements. These accomplishments have made significant contributions to improving the ability to serve the national energy strategy and double carbon strategy and carrying forward the spirit of petroleum.
