The new list of innovation teams of 2014 was recently released by the Minstry of Education, the team of Offshore Drilling and Completion Theory and Engineering, led by Baojiang Sun, was on the list. All 58 listed teams will again get financial supports from the Ministry for maintaining a stable research direction and sustainable innovation capability. This is the second year for the innovation teams to obtain financial support from the Ministry due to their outstanding achievements made in the previous years.
The team led by Baojiang Sun was first supported by the Ministry in the period of 2011-2013. Based on our offshore oil&gas engineering lab and CNPC offshore engineering lab, the team carries out researches on offshore drilling and completion theory and application, offshore drilling design, risk evaluation, deepwater well drilling fluid, well control, well testing, completion fluid, and cementing technology. With the joint efforts, the team has undertaken 30 projects, including the National 973 Projects, National 863 Projects, and National Nature Funded Projects. The team won one Second Price of National Scientific Progress, three First Prizes of Scientific Progress of Provincial level. 22 patents were awarded. Part of the research results has been applied to BOP of 3000m water depth and deepwater riser and wellhead system.
The team will get financial support from the Ministry for another three years, in which, the team will take safe and efficient drilling and completion of offshore wells as the first priority, and put emphasis on technical innovation, talented prosonnel trainning, and international cooperation. Hopefully, the great technical breakthrough in this area can be achieved.
