On Oct. 18, the first seven international postgraduates from seven different countries delivered their thesis proposal presentations in English at our school. Six jury members from the international education college, the graduate school, and the school of petroleum engineering attended the presentation.
The thesis topics are about water coning, water drive reservoir simulation, and mechanism of flow of oil or shale gas through tight reservoirs, etc. After each presentation, the jury asked lots of questions concerning the research feasibility, procedures, key technical issues, workload, and time schedule, etc. The students are greatly benefited by jurys suggestions and guidelines for their thesis which will be completed in the next three years.
Due to increasing enrollment of international master and doctor students and more standardization of international education system, higher demands for highly qualified teachers are faced by our school. However, for the past years the school put great emphasis on offering bilingual courses and courses in pure English. Today, five bilingual courses can be offered. Annual hours for teaching international undergraduate students in English reaches 3000 hrs. The joint program of master degree reservoir management with Heriot-Watt has been conducted for eight years successively. All of these efforts contribute to the smooth transition of offering master and doctor degree program for international students.
