Prof. Simon Mathias from the department of earth sciences at Durham University, and Prof. Roger Grimshaw from the department of mathematical sciences at Loughborough University of UK, gave two individual presentations at our school on Dec. 27, 2013.
The title of presentation given by Prof. Simon is Injectivity Forecasting for CO2 Storage in Brine Aquifers and Depleted Gas Reservoirs. The talk introduced some key ideas concerning CO2 storage in brine aquifers and depleted gas reservoirs. An explanation was provided on the role of reservoir pressure as a constraint CO2 injection planning. An analytical solution for pressure buildup was presented to forecast pressure buildup due to injection of CO2 in brine aquifers.
Prof. Roger gave a presentation entitled Nonlinear Wave in Ocean. In the presentation, the characteristics of complex ocean waves were introduced. Explanations were provided concerning nonlinear ocean wave interactions. He put emphasis on how to observe waves growing and development, maintaining an equilibrium with the wind, and modeling of nonlinear wave-wave interactions, wind input and wave dissipation in ocean.
The presentations were well attended by our young teachers and graduate students. The warm discussion was followed after the presentation.
