The seminar on development of unconventional oil and gas with supercritical CO2, in combination with the meeting on the development of the drilling discipline over past 60 years was held in UPC on July 11. The seminar was hosted by Wang Ruihe. The meeting was attended by Shan Honghong, Liu Huadong, Sheng Zhonghou, Liu Xisheng, retired professors, and faculty teachers.
Shan Honghong expressed sincere thanks to senior professors for their the dedication to the development of our university and was looking forward to receiving ideas and suggestions from them. The retired professors visited labs and were very impressed by the great achievements of all aspects made over past few years. Following the welcome speech, 12 presentations were delivered by the experts on wellbore flow pattern, rock mechanics, adsorption, drilling fluid application and fracturing.
Unconventional resources refer to shale gas in tight sandstone, ultra heavy oil, coal bed methane, and gas hydrate. A supercritical CO2 drilling and completion lab, the first lab in China, was set up in UPC. Researches are being carried out with supercritical CO2 in terms of jet drilling, multiphase flow in wellbore, fracturing, and shale gas development.
