    2. Details of the Competition Events
    (1) The Paper Contest(China District Group, International Group)
The Paper Contest consists of two matches, the China District Group and the International Group, and both of them are in English form. Each individual university recommends one paper from undergraduates and postgraduates respectively to form the China District Group, and the rest papers from other students form the International Group. The SPE China District Paper Contest is granted by the SPE Asia Pacific, and the first prize owner will be selected in SPE Asia Pacific Paper Contest with 400USD bonus reward.
13 students from 11 universities or scientific research institutions including Peking University, China University of Petroleum (East China), Southwest Petroleum University, China university of Geosciences (Wuhan), China Oil Exploration and Development Research Institute (Langfang) and etc. enter the finals. The judges are Wu Dianbing, the oil reservoir geology experts from ConocoPhillips, Zhang Yanhong, the SIS department senior geologist from Schlumberger Beijing and Professor Liao Hualin from China University of Petroleum (East China). They decide two first prize owners, three second prize owners and three third prize owners. Finally, Zhang Wei, an undergraduate from China University of Petroleum (East China) and Li Zhi, a postgraduate from Southwest Petroleum University win the first prize and 400 USD. Meantime, they win the qualification for participating in SPE SPE Asia Pacific Paper Contest holding in Bali, Indonesia.
The International Group is made up 13 participants from 6 countries. The judge are Yin Shenghui, the development technical director of Schlumberger Software Group in China, Professor Zhang Zhiying and Sun Renyuan from China University of Petroleum (East China). Finally, a student from Cairo University Egypt and Gong Zhiwu from China University of Petroleum (East China) win the first prize.

    (2) Frac-Fluid Challenge
On 19th of July, Frac-Fluid Challenge of the first time Petro-Gathering was held at Oilfield Chemistry Lab, Engineering Building B, China University of Petroleum (East China). There are 16 teams from the USA, Russia, Malaysia, Egypt, China, and each team with three or four people. The Challenge can be divided into two stages, field compounding and works exhibition, lasting two days.
One week before the Challenge, the committee released the competition question which mainly concerns geological mechanics conditions of fracturing construction reservoir, synpaper properties of reservoir rock and requirements and notices of fracturing fluid.
Competitors design and compound fracturing fluid system which consists of the base fluid and the crosslinking fluid according to the competition question and materials in limited time. After testing some basic properties, competitors hand on their works to the committee.
Judges of field compounding and works exhibition are Premnath Asokan, the Oil and Gas Production Engineer, Lu Jian, the general manager assistant and technical director of marketing from Beijing FRAC technology development co., LTD, LiangGuoping, technical director from Joint Innovation co., LTD, and Jiang Lin from Oil field chemistry faculty of China University of Petroleum (East China) .
Finally, the team Fracture 4 from Southwest Petroleum University won the first prize.

    (3) Petro-Software Contest
On 19th of July, Petro-Software Contest was held at the integrated design training room, Engineering Building B, China University of Petroleum (East China). There are 21 teams from the USA, Egypt, China, South Korea, and India.
Petro-Software Contest can be divided into two groups: geological modeling group and numerical simulation group. Based on the reservoir geological parameters, production data, and other relevant information, competitors should finish the calculation of geological modeling and reserves, or the fitting and application of previous numerical simulation. Each team consists of one or two people, and they can join either group. There are three stages in this competition, knowledge quiz, software operation and works defense. The former two stages were held on that day.
The knowledge quiz stage, which utilizes an online exam platform provided by Sunshine Petro BBS, requires each team finish 80 questions in 35 minutes. The questions concern some basic knowledge about reservoir physics, reservoir numerical simulation and software application of Petrel and Eclipse. On the operation stage, competitors conduct geology simulation with Petrel 2014 or finish oil pool numerical simulation with Eclipse 2014 corresponding to different groups.
The judge are Yin Shenghui, the development technical director of Schlumberger Software Group in China, Zhang Yanhong, the SIS department senior geologist from Schlumberger Beijing and Zhang Kai, Zhang Zhiying from China University of Petroleum (East China). Finally, the representatives from Chengdu University of Technology and Southwest Petroleum University won the first prize.

    3. Cultural Exchange Activity
    (1) SPE Talk
Guest speakers include Peng Ciming, the chief business plan expert from Sinopec international petroleum exploration and development co., LTD, Yin shenghui, the development technical director of Schlumberger Software Group in China, Wu Dianbing, the oil reservoir geology experts from ConocoPhillips, and professor Gao Xinwei from Economics and Management faculty of China University of Petroleum (East China). They made improvising speech on “Challenges and Opportunities under Low Oil Price situation” with experts, representatives from enterprises and college students in relaxed academic communication form. Experts had a hot debate on opportunities provided by “Helping All the Way” policy, investment strategy of domestic unconventional and conventional oil and gas resources, companies’ development strategy under low oil price situation and development prospect of petro industry.
