About the speaker:
Dr. Alves’s last position was a Senior Technical Advisor for Artificial Lift and Flow Assurance at Petrobras (the Brazilian state oil company), where he worked for almost 35 years. He hold a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, a M.Sc. degree in Petroleum Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa, U.S. He is an author or co-author of several technical journal, conference papers and many technical reports, in the area of Petroleum Production. He is SPE member where he served in the Technical Editor committee of JPT from 2008 to 2011. He also had the opportunity to be selected as a SPE Distinguish Lecturer for the period of 2012/2013. He has have several years of both theoretical and experimental research and development experience in the field of production engineering particularly deep-water production, artificial lift and field development and flow assurance. One of the last projects that he was Involved was a multidisciplinary project with Shell and CMG - Computer Modelling Group to develop a next generation simulator for production facilities performed in Canada. His experience in the academia can be summarized as more than twelve years of graduate and undergraduate teaching experience at several universities in Brazil, where he participate as commit member of several thesis and dissertations. Left Petrobras in 2014, and joint the Texas A&M University, as a Professor of Engineering Practice in Jan/2015.
