Dr. Tao Yang receives 2019 SPE Distinguished Membership Award

Dr. Tao Yang, distinguished alumni of China University of Petroleum, has been honored with Distinguished Membership Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Established in 1983, the Distinguished Member award recognizes SPE members who achieve distinction deemed worthy of special recognition. This award acknowledges members who have attained eminence in the petroleum industry or the academic community, or who have made significant contributions to SPE. This SPE International award is awarded to less than 1% SPE members.

Dr. Yang was selected for the honor in recognition of “his distinguished contributions to petroleum engineering in the areas of gas based improved oil recovery and understanding reservoir fluid properties in shale gas and oil reservoirs and his active advocacy in SPE for new development of reservoir fluid technologies and increasing general reservoir fluid competence level through industrial platforms,” according to SPE. 

Dr. Yang has worked in the Institute of Process Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Department of Petroleum Engineering of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and the Norwegian Beira Company. He currently works for the Statoil ASA and provides consulting services for reservoir engineering for almost all large multinational international oil companies. Dr. Yang Tao is an SPE Distinguished Lecturer and a member of the Journal of Reservoir Engineering and Elsevier Petroleum Science and Engineering.

He received the award at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition held 30 September – 2 October in Calgary, AB, Canada.
