Recently, the 5th Petro-Gathering (China International Student Petroleum Forum) was held at UPC. The forum attracted experts, scholars and students from 13 universities and research institutes in 6 countries to participate, including University of Alaska-Fairbanks (USA), Edith Cowan University (Australia), Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées de Paris (France), Peking University, China University of Petroleum (East China), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Chengdu University of Technology, Southwest Petroleum University and China Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development.

Affected by the global COVID epidemic situation, the forum adopted the offline + online mode. The forum was directed by SPE Asia Pacific Chapter and SPE North China Chapter, and organized by SPE Student Chapter from the China University of Petroleum (East China), with the support of Anton Oilfield Technology Group, Schlumberger, and Sunmaker Energy Services, and funded by the 2021 International Student Exchange Program from the university. Through a series of activities such as Innovative Engineering Application Competition, Thesis Competition, SPE Workshop, Corporate Culture Exhibition and SPE Roundtable Summit, the forum aimed to lead the development of academic innovation and help international exchange and cooperation.

The whole competition was conducted in English. The Innovative Engineering Application Competition had three topics, including carbon neutralization, oilfield production and efficiency, and geological development, etc. Participants could choose any one of them to conduct literature research, material preparation, and proposal development, and finally make an online presentation in Powerpoint format. The paper competition involved four directions, including oil and gas well engineering, oil and gas field development engineering, oil and gas storage and transportation engineering, and offshore oil and gas engineering, etc. The contestants demonstrated their solid professional knowledge and quick response ability through topic preparation, paper writing, and defense report.

In the SPE Workshop themed Interdiscipline for Oil and Gas Field Technology Innovation, we invited Neil Kavanagh, Director of SPE Asia Pacific and Chief Scientist of Woodside, Linhua Guan, President of Surge Energy America, Steffen Berg, Scientist of Shell Netherlands, Prof. Abhijit Dandekar, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Prof. Siavash Ghabezloo from Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris, France, and Prof. Stefan Iglauer, Head of Petroleum Department at Edith Cowan University, to give keynote presentations about transdiscipline technology innovation, petroleum engineering's role in carbon neutrality and etc., providing students and faculty with the latest research in the energy field.

The success of the 5th Petro-Gathering is of great significance to the building of our SPE student chapter, and to a certain extent, promotes the internationalization of our university. introduced by Yao Jun, vice president and SPE student chapter instructor. He said that the SPE student chapter took the initiative to grasp the new opportunities of international exchange and cooperation in the post-epidemic era, actively connected with domestic and international universities in oil and gas fields, petroleum enterprises and research institutes, and contributed to the cultivation of first-class oil talents with international vision.

Petro-Gathering: China International Student Petroleum Forum is an international academic exchange event initiated by SPE student chapter of our university, which is specially designed for students in oil and gas field, aiming at cultivating and stimulating students' innovative consciousness, exercising students' professional knowledge application ability, and promoting the exchange and development of SPE student chapter in domestic and foreign universities. Since 2015, it has been successfully held for five times.
