On September 27th, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of China University of Petroleum (East China), the School of Petroleum Engineering held an alumni face-to-face event in Room B347 of Building B in the Engineering Experiment Building to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the school, inherit the spirit of petroleum, and showcase the exemplary role of alumni. This event featured a report titled Global Energy Strategic Situation in Times of Great Changes by Lu Ruquan, a graduate of the Petroleum Engineering major from the class of 1998 and the Director of the Economic and Technological Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation. Leaders, teachers, and student representatives from the School of Petroleum Engineering attended the event.
Lu Ruquan first introduced the basic situation of the Economic and Technological Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation to the attendees and welcomed the students to join. He then elaborated on the Sino-U.S. relations and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, new trends in the global energy landscape, and CNPC's energy security and energy transition, providing a detailed analysis of the global energy strategic situation in times of great changes. Using humorous and witty language combined with the development of international relations, he advised the students, Through vicissitudes and tempering, history reveals the future. During the interactive session with the students, Lu Ruquan passionately shared his experiences and advised the students to have long-term aspirations and strive towards their goals without giving up. Finally, Lu Ruquan expressed his gratitude to China University of Petroleum (East China) and wished his alma mater a happy 70th birthday.
Lu Ruquan, Ph.D., Senior Economist, Professor-level Senior Economist, international energy strategist, and Director of the Economic and Technological Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation (National High-end Think Tank). Lu Ruquan graduated from China University of Petroleum (East China) with a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1998. He previously served as Deputy General Manager of the International Department (Foreign Affairs Bureau) of China National Petroleum Corporation and Director of the Strategic Development Department of China National Petroleum Corporation International Exploration and Development Company. He has worked on oil projects in Iraq and Sudan for several years. Since 2006, he has been mainly engaged in research on strategic management, policy studies, management transformation, energy transition, and energy cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. He has been awarded three first prizes for national-level modernization innovation achievements in enterprise management. He has published works such as Insights into Petroleum, Petroleum in the Belt and Road Initiative, A Decade of Strategy, Belt and Road Initiative: Chinese Oil and Gas and the World, Oil Power, and Central Enterprises and Globalization. He has authored over 200 articles on international relations, energy geopolitics, corporate internationalization, strategy, and management.
