Our College Held The "Learn From The World, Strengthening The Energy Nation" Global Competence Overseas Practice Group South Korea Study Tour Event

To further implement the requirements of the talent training system construction in the new era, and enhance students' international perspectives and global competence, from May 16th to May 19th, the School of Petroleum Engineering organized the Learn from the World, Strengthening the Energy Nation Global Competence Overseas Practice group to Seoul, South Korea for a study tour. The group visited Seoul National University, Ewha Womans University, and Yonsei University to experience the academic atmosphere and campus culture of these world-renowned institutions. The practice group was led by Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chen Yindun, Party Committee Secretary Yu Mengfei, counselors Zhang Hao and Zhang Jiaxin, along with a total of 26 undergraduate students from various grades. Through on-site visits and exchanges, the interaction between Chinese and South Korean students was strengthened, fostering a deeper understanding of each other's educational systems and academic research.

On May 17th, the practice group held a meeting at the Conference Center of Seoul National University. Professor Min Jifu, the head of the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering at Seoul National University, along with Professor Choi Jong-Geun, Professor Ding Xunrong, and graduate students from the research group, attended the ceremony. Professor Ding Xunrong presided over the meeting. During the meeting, Yu Mengfei first expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception and thoughtful arrangements by the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering at Seoul National University. She introduced the basic situation of the School of Petroleum Engineering at China University of Petroleum (East China), providing insights on talent cultivation, faculty team, advantageous disciplines, research directions, and detailed information on talent recruitment policies, study abroad policies, and related programs at the school and college.Subsequently, Professor Min Jifu, on behalf of Seoul National University, warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced the basic information about the university. Professor Ding Xunrong introduced the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering's basic information, while Professor Yongchae Cho presented an overview of the Applied Geophysics Laboratory at Seoul National University.

Finally, Chen Yindun and Professor Min Jifu exchanged commemorative gifts on behalf of their respective institutions, symbolizing the friendship between the two parties and a closer cooperation in the future. Both sides expressed their commitment to further enhancing exchanges and collaboration, jointly promoting the development of higher education in the field of energy at both universities, exploring new paths for collaborative talent cultivation, and contributing to the development of more world-class energy talents.

The practice group then visited the Xi Jinping Study Room located in the library of Seoul National University. This is the only library room at Seoul National University named after a foreign leader. During his state visit to South Korea in July 2014, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at Seoul National University titled Working Together for the Future of Sino-Korean Cooperation and Jointly Promoting the Revitalization and Prosperity of Asia. President Xi Jinping also gifted 10,000 books and audiovisual materials introducing China to Seoul National University for educational and academic research purposes.Inside the study room, the students saw the calligraphy by President Xi Jinping which read Exploring the truth, pursuing the light, deepening their understanding of President Xi Jinping's earnest instructions on strengthening communication and exchange between young people from China and South Korea.

Led by graduate students from the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering at Seoul National University, the practice group visited research laboratories such as the Numerical Simulation Computing Center, Rock Mechanics, and Rock Engineering Laboratory, engaging in discussions on relevant research topics. The group also toured the Seoul National University campus, academic buildings, Kwanggaeto Hall, and the Seoul National University Art Museum.As one of the top higher education institutions in South Korea, Seoul National University made a profound impression on the team members with its rigorous academic attitude, rich research resources, vibrant library learning atmosphere, state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, and beautiful campus environment. Tang Kaiwen remarked, The open learning atmosphere at Seoul National University greatly facilitates communication among students, while the advanced labs equipped by the university provide strong support for their academic research, helping to cultivate their innovative and teamwork spirit.

On May 18th, the practice group visited Ewha Womans University and Yonsei University for campus research and study. Ewha Womans University, known for its unique educational philosophy and excellent quality of education, is a prestigious women's university with a long history. During the visit, team members not only admired the university's beautiful architectural style but also gained a deeper understanding of Ewha Womans University's contributions and achievements in women's education.Ewha Womans University students actively participate in various academic activities, engaging in thought exchange and knowledge sharing with students and teachers from diverse disciplines and backgrounds. The university has a strong reputation for empowering women in education and providing a supportive environment for academic and personal growth.

Yonsei University, a renowned private research university in South Korea, has earned global recognition for its excellent teaching quality and research capabilities. During the visit to Yonsei University, team members explored the campus scenery, engaged in conversations with English-speaking students, and delved into the campus's historical culture and distinctive strengths.Both universities operate a credit transfer system, fostering an open and collaborative model for talent development. The schools promote an academic atmosphere of exchange, knowledge sharing, and interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging students to explore, innovate, and actively pursue academic excellence and achievements.

The study trip allowed the team members to appreciate the charm of South Korea's top universities, deepen their understanding of the education systems in both China and South Korea, and lay the foundation for further cooperation between the two countries. Through interactions with Korean students, both sides enhanced their friendship, gained academic experience, and had a profound impact on the team members' future development. Team member Wang Yuanzhen remarked, This journey has allowed me to deeply understand the unique charm and advanced concepts of higher education in South Korea, experience the distinctive campus cultures of the three universities, broaden my horizons, understand the customs of South Korea, and make friends with Korean youth. I hope to continuously enhance my international perspective and communication skills in the future, and contribute to the development of our country's energy industry.
