On May 7th, the Organization Department of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee announced the relevant appointment and dismissal decisions, appointing Professor Zhang Kai as the president of Qingdao University of Technology.

Zhang Kai, born in April 1980 in Nanchong, Sichuan Province, is a professor and doctoral supervisor. He is a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation Distinguished Young Scholars Fund, the National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Young Scholars Fund, the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Outstanding Youth Fund, and the Sun Yuezhi Youth Science and Technology Award. He is also a specially-appointed expert of the Taishan Scholar Program in Shandong Province. Zhang Kai obtained his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 2002, 2005, and 2008, respectively. He began teaching at the College of Petroleum Engineering at China University of Petroleum (East China) in July 2008. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the Vice Dean of the College of Petroleum Engineering at China University of Petroleum (East China). In July 2021, he was appointed as the Vice President of Qingdao University of Technology. In May 2024, he was appointed as a member of the Party Committee and President of Qingdao University of Technology.
