From May 10th to 11th, the regional competition of the 14th China Petroleum Engineering Design Contest for the Eastern Region was held at our university. The competition was organized by the National Committee of the World Petroleum Council, the Chinese Petroleum Society, and the China Petroleum Education Association, hosted by China University of Petroleum (East China), and strongly supported by China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, and China Offshore Oil Group Corporation. Industry experts from major oil companies were invited to serve as judges for the competition.The regional competition adopted a combination of online and offline methods, with offline evaluation by expert judges and online presentations by participating teams from various universities and institutions.

On the morning of May 11th, Zhang Zhan, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Petroleum Engineering, presided over the opening ceremony of the Eastern Region competition. He pointed out that the China Petroleum Engineering Design Contest aims to promote the construction of first-class disciplines, implement the fundamental task of moral education and talent cultivation, greatly enhance the effectiveness of petroleum higher education, create a platform for deep integration of industry and education, and complementary advantages of school-enterprise collaboration, and achieve organic connection of the education chain, talent chain, industry chain, and innovation chain, to cultivate and foster a group of engineering and technical talents with strong innovation capabilities and adaptability to the needs of economic and social development.Huang Shanbo, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the university, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Zhang Yongjin, a representative of the judging experts, gave a speech, and Huang Weian, Vice Dean of the College of Petroleum Engineering, read out the matters related to the evaluation.

To ensure the smooth progress of the competition, the university and the college attached great importance to the organization of the competition, conducting several discussions on expert appointments, venue arrangements, evaluation processes, logistical support, and event publicity, ultimately developing the best regional competition plan. Over 30 staff members and volunteers actively engaged in reception, guidance, venue services, and other tasks, providing solid support for the successful conduct of the competition.

The Eastern Regional competition of the 14th China Petroleum Engineering Design Contest received a total of 104 submissions from 8 universities. After expert evaluation, 24 teams from 4 universities advanced to the final round. The National Finals of the 14th China Petroleum Engineering Design Contest will be held on May 18th at China University of Petroleum (Beijing).
