[Our Site News] Recently, the International Porous Media Society (InterPore) announced that Professor Yao Jun from our college has been awarded the InterPore Lifetime Achievement Medal (The InterPore Lifetime Achievement Medal) for his outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of porous media science and technology. This is the 17th time that InterPore has awarded this medal to the world's top scholars in this field since its establishment, and Professor Yao Jun has become the first Chinese scholar to receive this honor.

Professor Yao Jun is the founding director of our university's Oil and Gas Permeability Research Center. His research field mainly focuses on multiphase flow in porous media (seepage mechanics) and its application in oil and gas field development engineering. He proposes the modern oil and gas seepage theory framework and the academic thought of micro-mechanism characterization, multi-scale correlation, multi-field coupling, and integration of continuous and discrete media, and establishes a multi-scale, multi-modal, multi-field coupling oil and gas seepage theory from micro-mechanism to macroscopic phenomena. He proposes the construction method of shale multi-scale multi-mineral digital cores and pore network models, builds a nanometer pore-level flow simulation platform, reveals the micro-mechanism and laws of flow, and lays the theoretical foundation for multi-scale correlation. He proposes the general discrete fracture network model and discrete fracture-pore network model, successfully solves the difficulties of fracture flow and seepage coupling, and large fracture-pore free flow and seepage coupling, forming a complex oil and gas reservoir large-scale efficient parallel numerical simulation method and software. He has won the highest honor in the international oil and gas engineering field—SPE Honorary Member, the highest award in the international seepage mechanics field—InterPore Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Petroleum Engineers Association (SPE) Distinguished Member, the InterPore Merit Service Medal of the International Porous Media Society, the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress, and the Second Prize of the Technical Invention, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science, and so on. He has published 17 monographs and textbooks, published more than 600 high-level papers, with more than 20,000 Google citations, H-index 70, and has been selected many times as the Clarivate Analytics Global Highly Cited Scientist, Elsevier China Highly Cited Scholar, and the Global Top 2% Scientists List. To date, he has cultivated 68 doctoral students and guided 5 postdoctoral fellows.

The International Porous Media Society was founded in 2008, with members from the academic and industrial communities around the world. Research on porous media science and engineering problems involves complex issues across multiple disciplines and fields, and is widely present in natural and industrial systems such as soil, groundwater resources, underground oil and gas reservoirs, human and animal tissues and organs, plants, composite materials, fuel cells, concrete, ceramics, textiles, and computer and mobile phone chips. The International Porous Media Society is committed to providing a communication platform for researchers in various fields to exchange complex porous media research, and to promote the dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge in porous media science and engineering.
