[This station news] Since the School of Petroleum Engineering issued the Implementation Measures for Strengthening the Process Assessment of Courses (No. 1 of Shigong Teaching [2024]), one year has passed since the implementation. In order to comprehensively evaluate the implementation effect, examine and analyze existing problems, further standardize teaching management, and effectively improve the quality of undergraduate teaching, the college organized a special symposium on curriculum assessment work among all departments and course groups on January 26. President Hou Jian, Vice President Qi Ning, department heads, course group leaders, and teaching secretaries attended the meeting.

At the meeting, various teaching departments reported on the implementation of process assessment, midterm exams, and final exams for the professional courses currently offered, and exchanged experiences and practices in the organization and operation of course assessment. The meeting conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as the process assessment methods and their proportion of grades, the setting of the minimum passing score for final exams, and the setting of the midterm exam stage.

President Hou Jian put forward two requirements for strengthening the process assessment of courses: First, each course group should actively carry out the reform of the course assessment model. Starting from the 2024-2025-2 semester, all required courses and elective courses with final exam sections offered to full-time undergraduate students in the college must set a minimum score for the final exam paper, which will be implemented by the heads of each course group. Second, combining the actual situation of the courses, strengthen the process assessment to stimulate students' initiative in learning, optimize the content and difficulty of the assessment in a reasonable manner, focus on improving the teaching effect of the courses, and ensure that students effectively achieve the learning objectives of the courses.
