In order to further implement the requirements of talent training system construction in the new era and further expand students 'international vision, from July 24 to July 28, the Overseas Practice Group of Global Competence of Petroleum Engineering College was invited to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in the 2024 PetroBowl® Asia Pacific Regional Qualifying Competition in Vietnam, and visited Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology, Vietnam History Museum and Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City.

The practice group was led by Zhou Xiaodong and Yang Qishuo, counselors of the college. There were 8 students from SPE Student Branch, including Liu Zeyu, Hou Huilin and Liu Jinming. During the five-day on-site visit and exchange, valuable experience and profound historical and cultural experience were gained through exchanges with school branches, visits to museums and consulates, and at the same time, the academic charm of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology was appreciated, deepening the understanding and interaction between academic research and education systems of China and Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology was founded in 1957. It is a member of Ho Chi Minh City National University (VNU-HCMC). Formerly known as Vietnam National Technology Center, it is the largest scientific training, research and technology transfer center in the southern region and an important scientific and technological university in Vietnam. On July 25, the practice team met with the organizer and each participating team in the Conference Center of the University of Science and Technology, reported and drew lots before the competition, and became familiar with the competition process.

On July 25th, at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology Conference Center, the organizers and the leading teachers and student members of SPE chapters from 17 schools in 8 countries held a symposium to share their experience in activities, discuss the development of higher education in the energy field, explore new talent training paths, and contribute to the cultivation of more world-class energy talents. Liu Zeyu, Chairman of SPE Student Branch of our school, introduced our basic situation, development process and awards successively. In addition, it also focused on the featured brand activities held by the branch in the past year, including the 11th SPE General Meeting, SPE 10th Anniversary Celebration Activities, the First Anton Cup Petroleum Knowledge Competition, the 8th Petroleum Exchange: China International Petroleum Forum, the First HiSim Software Design Competition in 2024, etc. At the end of the meeting, team members left a group photo to commemorate this valuable academic exchange experience.

On the morning of July 26, the team participated in the PetroBowl competition, which was a fierce competition with the players of Anderson University in the Philippines. Subsequently, led by student representatives of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology, the team members visited the campus and gained an in-depth understanding of the school's talent training, faculty, discipline advantages and scientific research direction. During the exchange, they experienced the warm hospitality of the host school and learned about the important position and contribution of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology in Vietnam's energy industry.

In the afternoon, teachers and students visited the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum, and SPE members were deeply attracted by the colorful historical materials. They gained an in-depth understanding of Ho Chi Minh City's development by viewing ancient copper coins, costumes, musical instruments, embroidery and other exhibits. The ancient living utensils and costumes displayed in the exhibition also tell the close relationship between the ancient development of Vietnam and China. Through vivid displays and physical objects, members deeply experienced the development of Ho Chi Minh City from the initial exploration stage to today's important city in Vietnam.

The teachers and students of the practical delegation visited the Vietnam History Museum 

On July 27, the team visited the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Ho Chi Minh City. The head of the Consulate Office and we introduced the functions of the Consulate in detail, and showed the team the well-known products of Vietnam Chinese-funded enterprises displayed in the Consulate, as well as the contributions made by Chinese and overseas Chinese to the local economic development during the start-up period in Vietnam. The railway and aircraft models on display tell the progress of Vietnam in the railway and aviation fields in recent years with the help of all parties, while the model of Vietnam Green Development Park on the stand shows the efforts and achievements of Vietnam in environmental protection. The staff's explanation enabled the practical mission to have a deeper understanding of the national conditions in Vietnam.

Visiting China Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City

Later, Zhou Xiaodong and Yang Qishuo introduced to the consulate in detail the current situation of the School of Petroleum Engineering of China University of Petroleum (East China) in energy education and its contribution to the energy industry. The two sides held in-depth discussions on further promoting personnel exchanges and enterprise cooperation between China and Vietnam. The consulate expressed its willingness to play a bridge role in promoting Sino-Vietnamese relations, hoping to promote more Vietnam students to study in our school, and welcomed more China universities to come for exchanges.

This study tour not only demonstrated the professional strength and team spirit of students from the School of Petroleum Engineering of China University of Petroleum (East China), but also deepened academic exchanges in the field of energy and enhanced cultural understanding and friendship between China and Vietnam. This is a meaningful overseas practical trip, injecting new impetus and hope into future cooperation and development in the energy field.
