Recently, the International Society of Petroleum Engineers announced the winners of the 2024 SPE International Award. Professor Sun Baojiang of our institute won the 2024 SPE Distinguished Member Award.

Professor Sun Baojiang has been engaged in the research on wellbore multiphase flow theory and control technology for a long time, and has made many important innovative achievements in wellbore pressure control and disaster prevention in deepwater and deep drilling and completion, innovated the internationally influential multi-component multi-phase wellbore multiphase flow theory, invented the well control technology and equipment of offshore deepwater dynamic well killing drilling, developed the key technology of deep full-process fine pressure control drilling, and promoted the development of wellbore pressure control technology; He has won 1 second prize of National Technological Invention Award, 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 9 first prizes of Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award, Outstanding Engineer Award of China Science Foundation, Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholar, Chief Scientist of National 973 Project and Basic Science Center Project.

SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) is a professional association of executives, engineers, scientists and other professionals from the global oil and gas and related energy industries with 127000 members in 145 countries. The Distinguished Member Award was established in 1983 to recognize outstanding achievements in the oil and gas industry or academia and significant contributions to SPE. In 2024, 7 members received the Distinguished Member Award.
