From May 18th to 27th, Professor Liao Hualin, Associate Professor Liu Huajie and Chinese from the schoolA delegation composed of Professor Guo Yueqin of the School went to Saudi Arabia and Dubai, United Arab Emirates to carry out a series of academic exchanges and cooperation negotiations, and reached a number of important consensus with local universities, enterprises and scientific research institutions on core topics such as the construction of the Belt and Road joint laboratory, international technical cooperation and cultural exchanges. It will lay a solid foundation for promoting international industry-university-research cooperation in the energy field.

In the exchange with Sinopec Middle East R&D Center, the delegation and General Manager Ding Shidong reached a key consensus on the construction of the Belt and Road joint laboratory: to apply for Saudi Aramco's scientific research projects as the starting point to promote the hardware upgrade and technology iteration of the laboratory; Relying on the laboratory platform, we will establish a mutual learning mechanism between Chinese and foreign technical thinking to accelerate the transformation of international scientific research achievements. Accompanied by Deputy General Manager Keke, the delegation visited the scientific research laboratories of drilling, completion, and reservoir physics, as well as the PVT laboratory and core physical properties laboratory under construction, and had in-depth exchanges with scientific researchers on experimental procedures and technical difficulties. The R&D center will clearly serve as a link between the University of Petroleum and Saudi Aramco for technical exchanges, provide faculty with a channel for Saudi Aramco technology promotion, organize experts from both sides to carry out joint research and project cooperation, and promote the deep integration of academic achievements and industrial needs.

Two technical exchange meetings facilitated by Sinopec Middle East R&D Center became highlightsProf. Liao Hualin's team's innovative speed-up tool has been recognized by Saudi Aramco's technical director for its excellent performance, and the other party intends to fund the commercialization of the technology to accelerate its application in reservoirs in the Middle East. Associate Professor Liu Huajie's team has aroused strong interest in technologies such as underbalanced speed-up tools and efficient plugging hydrogels, and the two sides agreed to continue to deepen cooperation and explore technical cooperation paths through online meetings.

 Communicate with KFUPM Materials Academy

Focusing on academic resonance and talent exchange, the college delegation held 4 meetings with KFUPM。 In terms of discipline exchanges, in the exchanges of the School of Petroleum Engineering, Materials Science and Civil Engineering, we shared the practical achievements of completion material innovation and acceleration technology, Professor KFUPM showed cutting-edge theoretical research, and the two sides reached the intention of jointly applying for scientific research projects and cooperating in publishing papers. It also plans to send students to each other for joint training to broaden their international horizons. In terms of student exchanges, the two sides reached an agreement with the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange on the details of student dispatch (selection criteria, course articulation, etc.), and KFUPM expressed full support for the cooperation model, which will be the basis for the follow-up China University of Petroleum — KFUPM Joint Training Project laid the foundation.

Communicate with Dubai Dragon Oil Company

During its stay in Dubai, the delegation engaged in a strategic dialogue with a number of parties. At Dragon Oil, the two sides exchanged ideas on speed improvement and completion material technology. We introduced the scientific research strength of the Belt and Road joint laboratory, and the two sides exchanged views on joint research and development, technical services and other directions, and planned to establish a normalized communication mechanism. At PetroChina Dubai Research Institute, focusing on high-temperature and high-pressure reservoir technology, the two sides shared practical experience in Middle East projects, reached the intention of joint scientific research and market collaborative development, and strengthened the synergy of Chinese enterprises in the Middle East energy market. In the creation of solar energy company, the founder Lv Jian proposed that it will rely on its Uganda Petroleum Institute and the Middle East business network to provide a technology promotion platform for the teachers of the University of Petroleum, focusing on promoting the localized application of Chinese mining technology in Africa and the Middle East, and simultaneously deepening the technology + culture dual output model.

During the visit, Sinopec Middle East R&D Center arranged Chinese catering to let the delegation feel the taste of home in a foreign country, and KFUPM entertained with traditional Arabic tea breaks, becoming a representative of mutual learning between China and Saudi Arabia. These details not only demonstrate the sincerity of the partners, but also reflect the profound cultural connotation of the Belt and Road. The visit took the Belt and Road joint laboratory as the core link, connecting the three-dimensional network of technical cooperation, talent training and cultural communication, which not only demonstrated the scientific research strength of the college in the field of energy, but also went global for the college's technologyA new path has been opened.
