Youth Crossing Mountains and Seas, China and Latin America Discuss the Future of Energy — The International Young Talent Exchange Program in China (CEP) Successfully Concluded

Recently, relying on the China International Talent Exchange Foundation's International Young Talent Exchange Program (CEP), and organized by Associate Professor Fu Guangming from our college, young scholars from Brazil came to the university for a month-long international internship. During this period, the projectorganized academic seminars, course learning, laboratory practice, and cultural exchanges around the marine energy sector, laying a solid foundation for academic cooperation in related fields between China and Latin America and fostering deep friendship among youth from both countries.

Using learning as a bridge, focusing on the frontier, and engaging in mutual learning

The event organized the Marine Energy Young Scholars Seminar,attended by Andrea Lima Belfort Duarte, Director of the International Department at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, andRomildo from the Rio City Science ParkAcademician andDean of the School of Chemical Engineering, Professor Papa Matar Ndiaye, and Professor Su Jian, Head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the Graduate School of Engineering, were invited to attend the conference and held multiple presentations and discussions with young scholars from both China and Latin America on topics such as marine oil and gas riser fluid-structure coupling, high-precision numerical methods, and flow safety assurance Both sides learned from each other through face-to-face exchanges. During the visit, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding on technological innovation and research collaboration. According to the memorandum,our universitywill officially join Brazil's innovation ecosystem, establish close ties with Brazilianuniversities andtechnology companies, and facilitate the overseas transformation of our scientific and technological achievements.

To deepen the cultivation of internationalized talent, during the project period, aninternational course titled Generalized Integral Transformations and Their Applications was organized, where young Brazilian scholars studied alongside on-campus students. The course focuses on core knowledge of mathematics and science, with Chinese and foreign youth exchanging learning methods through classroom interaction. At the same time, two special lectures at the Bocai Lecture Hall will be held, inviting authoritative experts to share cutting-edge trends in the energy field, effectively broadening the international academic horizons of young scholars from China and abroad. In addition, Brazilian scholars were organized to visit the laboratoryfor visits and practical exchanges, learning about the university's research conditions and work in marine energy development.

 Cultivating people to experience China and enhance identity

This exchange event organically combines rigorous academic spirit with vivid cultural experiences, enhancing value recognition through cross-cultural exchange. During the event, young Brazilian scholars visited the History Museum of China University of Petroleum (East China), experiencing the Shida spirit of United as family and country, hard work,truthfulness, and pursuit of excellence, and felt the responsibility and commitment of Chinese universities rooted in the industry and serving the nation; Step out of campus andvisit the Taoist cultural sites of Laoshan, a UNESCO World Heritage site, experiencing the traditional philosophical concept of unity of heaven and humanity through on-site exploration; Experience Qingdao's urban cultural activities and feel the openness and inclusiveness of this coastal city amid the lively and vibrant atmosphere of the city. A series of rich cultural activities have enabled young Brazilian scholars to gain a comprehensive and multi-faceted understanding of China, and have also helped young people from China and abroad bridge the gap and deepen their understanding through cultural exchange.

From academic cooperation to cultural exchange, from technical discussions to friendship formation, this cross-oceanic exchange has planted seeds of cooperation and friendship in the hearts of Chinese and Latin American youth. In the future, the college will continue to rely on international exchange platforms such as the CEP project to deepen talent cultivation and research cooperation with Latin American countries in the marine energy field, contribute university strength to building a China-Latin America community with a shared future and supporting sustainable global energy development, strengthening bridges of friendship across the ocean, and expanding the future of China-Latin America marine energy cooperation.
